Sneaky, Sneaky

The most unusual thing happened a few days ago. I will try to explain this story the best way I know how.

It was like any other day in the Carey household. The kids were full of energy and having fun playing, Kenny was at a meeting, and I was beginning to fix dinner. I knew that Kenny would come home hungry and that the children had not eaten anything since lunch, so I decided to fix dinner early and have it ready at 4:30. I called the children to the table at about 4:45pm and was greeted with the response, "Yuck, chili!" by the small blondie (AKA Katie). It was no surprise for we all know that she is a strict vegetarian (minus the vegetables). Katie preceeded to tell me that she was not hungry, and Cole (the tag along) echoed her response. Maddie (our angel) loves chili and scarfed it down within seconds. The younger two skipped off as I called after them, "You will not get anything else!"

I was being patient that day, and we were having friends over soon, so I did not feel the necessity of them eating dinner right then. Well, our friends arrived and we visited for a few hours. Kenny had returned home, and he noticed the full plates sitting on the table, but did not seem to mind also. We went about our evening sitting in the living room, however we did walk outside for a small moment to show off our newly landscaped back yard. 6:30 rolled around and our friends left, but to my surprise the two younger children did not come and ask for food. Kenny and I ate, and still not a peep about nurishment from either child. I had also made corn bread, and I know Katie will eat that, but she proceeded to tell me she wasn't hungry. Finally 7:30 came and as we prepared the children for bed, I warned them....You may wake up hungry tonight, but I don't want to hear about it! They went to bed without an argument, and Kenny and I just stood with mouths agape, not sure what to do.

Now here comes the interesting part. As Kenny and I prepared for bed I was in our bathroom. I glanced over at the garbage, and I noticed that there were some cookie wrappers in it. I will proceed to explain my thought process:

"Hmmm, that's strange. Cookie wrappers in the bathroom garbage?!?"

"Why would Kenny eat cookies in the bathroom?"

"Wow, he must have been really craving cookies because he ate 3 bags of them!"

"Wait... Kenny wouldn't have eaten those in here!"

"Hmmm....3 empty cookie bags....3 children who were not hungry for dinner....3 empty cookie bags....3 children...."

Now, for most who know me you understand my delayed thinking process-he he.

Well, I can now proudly say that I have sneaky kids! I'm sure they think that they got away with this. Kenny and I were both too entertained over the thought of them hiding in our bathroom eating cookies to punish them. I thought most parents would find this humorous. It's amazing what these little minds can do when they put all three of them together:)

I have been told more than once that I need to update our blog more often:) So, here are some new things that I have added to it. I put in a slide show (still trying to figure out how to get the pictures bigger though), and I added some music:) We have been keeping busy lately with everything! I was put in as Relief Society President, so I have been super busy, but things are starting to get better. Kenny is getting ready to go to a conference in Washington D.C. in the beginning of April. The kids are busy doing things that kids do, mostly making messes. Cole has discovered that he can tell his Mommy No!, and get away with it most of the time, or at least when they are in public. The girls are really excited about Valentine's Day. Katie was writing out all of her Valentine's for her class and I noticed that on only one she wrote "I Love You", and it was to a boy. I haven't had the guts to break it to Kenny yet:) He He

Our Christmas Letter- 2007

Greetings to all! We hope that this letter finds everyone well and having a wonderful holiday season! We have enjoyed a very eventful year, and looking forward to more excitement next year! Our lives have truly been blessed this year, and we hope that yours has as well.
Kenny had a very busy year. He graduated from dental school in June, and was accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency in the Army. He is looking forward to starting the residency next year, and right now is working as a dentist in the Army. Kenny loves working with the soldiers, and he has become the "go-to" guy for pulling teeth (especially wisdom teeth).
We found out in the beginning of the year that we would be stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, and we anxiously traveled cross country this past July! We arrived in North Carolina in the middle of summer (not a good time). It was hot and humid, and it had us rethinking the whole thing. Then we moved into our first house and we didn’t seem to mind the weather any longer! We have grown to appreciate this place, and we have made some great friends. We still miss all of our family, and our dental school friends, but we have become accustomed to living far from them all. We are excited for this opportunity to live in a new and different part of the country.
I (Missy) have stayed busy this year planning for the big move, searching for our house, and helping the children with all these changes. I was very excited to move and be done with the managing of apartments. It’s nice not having a "real" job! I was also very anxious to move into our first house! It was a fairly smooth move, and the kids were great sports about it all. We tried to make the week long trip fun by stopping often to see the sights along the way.
Maddie turned 7 this year and she is in the 1st grade. Maddie loves living here, and she has made some great friends. Both her and Katie have neighbor friends whom they get to play with. They love their PINK room! Maddie has adjusted quite well to all the changes. The kids finally got their puppy once we moved here, and they named her Kasey. Maddie has grown to love her, and she is taking on the responsibility well.
Katie is 5 ½, and she started Kindergarten this year! Katie was very excited to finally go to school this year. After seeing Maddie go last year, she didn’t seem scared at all! She loves school and her teacher, and she is learning so much. She loves all the friends she is making here, and loves playing outside all of the time. She too has adjusted well, although she still thinks that we can go to Pa pa’s house at the drop of the hat.
Cole is all boy! He is in the middle of his terrible 2s, and he is the complete description of that phrase. He loves to get into everything, make messes, fight, and act crazy. Cole is becoming very independent and wants to do everything for himself. He is curious about everything, and he loves to discover and explore. He loves having a backyard with a swing set that he can play in anytime he wants!
We have had a very full year, and next year I’m sure we will stay busy (hopefully not as busy however). We hope that everyone is blessed as much as we are, and that you all enjoy these wonderful holidays! We miss you all and wish everyone good health!

Merry Christmas!

OK- so sorry I haven't been writing lately! I wanted to share our Chirstmas photos, and explain the story behind them:) I have been taking a photography class at a nearby college with a friend, and I thought I would use Christmas time and a good opportunity to experiment with my new skills! Well, let's just say it may never happen again, but it was somewhat a successful experience. We started off well, and despite a few "hang-ups" with Cole, we were able to get the picture we wanted. You can tell as you scroll down, that by the end Cole was in tears (and so was his mommy)! I hope you enjoy these because they may be the last!!!!!

This is a huge plane from the 82nd Airborne. Cole calls it the "Daddy Plane" ! It's actually right next to the clinic where Kenny works, so we get to see it all the time! That's how Cole knows we are at Daddy's Work!
